Behind the scenes

12 000 animals live in 3 million litres of water.
Show fish collections to visitors deserves a peculiar health care. A team of 6 aquariologists watch over the health and security of animals.
Capital areas are an integral part of the site running :
- The “filters room” : a water recycling area
Every day, 30 000 litres of water are pumped out from the sea near the Aquarium and regenerate fish pools and quarantine rooms. After a passage in the filters room, water passes through polyether foams which filter large waste whereas the bacteria operate the degradation of the organic matter. The nitrates which are accumulated in water are also eliminated thanks to engines charged in sulphur balls. A sterilisation by UV radiation completes biological purification. Then, water is cooled or heated according to requirements of
each species of animals.
- The quarantine rooms :
Each new animal is accommodated three weeks in quarantine rooms in order to be gradually acclimatized. Place of prevention of possible bacteria, the quarantine rooms reserve for their inhabitants a completely singular treatment.
