Geographical distribution:
Western Atlantic: New Jersey, Bermuda, from the Gulf of Mexico to Brazil. Eastern Atlantic and Eastern Pacific.
Biology:
The green moray does not have any scales and its body can often display bright colours. It has a long tail and no pectoral or pelvic fins. The green moray is one of a hundred species of moray divided into several genera.
This snake-shaped fish lies in wait for its prey: it hides in crevices and carries out a surprise attack on any passing prey.
Be careful because their blood is poisonous and can destroy red corpuscles in human blood. However, their blood loses it toxicity if heated to over 75°C.
A real terror of the reefs, it is best not to provoke it because it will not hesitate to attack violently and cause a deep wound which could well become infectious.
