The Sharks’ Ring

One of the strongest highlights of this adventure : the sharks’area.
3-metre-long sharks swim in a circular fish tank (600 000 litres-24°C)!  Accompanied by 4 marine turtles and a giant grouper, these sea Lords stir up thrills and emotions. Particularly well-built for predation, these cartilaginous fish are impressive for the strength of their jaws and their quick movement. In a wreck, you can also see backtip reef and whitetip reef sharks.

The sharks’life
- The biggest shark, at the Grand Aquarium, measures 3,30m
- Sharks perceive a heart palpitation at 500m distance
- Sharks can have up to 80.000 teeth in their whole life
- 100 million sharks disappear each year
- Today, some sharks’ species are in process of extinction

What do sharks eat?
- 65kg of food a week, i.e. over 3 Tonnes a year!!
- Their food is varied. At the Grand Aquarium, they mainly feed on conger, bib, bass, mackerel, herring and squid.

At the Grand Aquarium, the tortoises are more overbearing than the sharks. Watch how they behave when the carers feed them (the sharks are fed in public throughout the summer).
