Biology :

It is an endemic fish of about twenty islands of the archipelago of Banggaï, situated in the east of Indonesia and living in various environments and especially in coral reefs.

Sometimes, during the reproduction, males have a lot to do! The cardinal fish is a good example, because the male broods eggs in its mouth during almost 1 month. During this period, the father does not eat to make sure its babies have food enough.

In the wings of the Great Aquarium, young pterapogons were born in September 2007. Brought up thanks to the zooplancton, they have been recently tranfered to the tropical aquariums with sea horses and can be seen during your visit.
